Lake Murray Floating Cabins - Ardmore, OK - June 5-7th 2015

sorry my bad

No big deal @Jebinok . I know you were shaking the trees.

The above was taken early Saturday morning on 6/6/15. Looks like @Jebinok is awake!

So I was looking at some place halfway between our friends in KS and us in San Antonio, saw Lake Murray on the map and thought "that sounds familiar...Ima look on JBN".
I don't know how I didn't follow this gathering when it was planned (I usually follow the gathering threads, I guess because I like to see all my buddies I've never met get together:-)

Any talk of doing this again?
I'm going to try to talk my wife and friends into doing one of the floating cabins this summer.

I'd be up for it depending on the dates.

We have quite a few trips already planned this summer.

I'd be happy to meet up with everybody again but I would probably just go for the day,

They are hard to get reservations at. If this is something everyone is interested in, pick a date. It might be more productive to call them and see what weekend is "most" open.

Last year we picked the date with the most availability.

I would like to propose the more remote but much nicer and calmer Lake Ouachita as an alternative location. Ouachita has four larger marinas with cabins, condos, fuel, ramps and dining. With hundreds of islands we should have no trouble finding a quiet area to call our own. The nearby city of Hot Springs offers hotels and restaurants. If we wanted to make a day trip to Lake Hamilton we could enjoy one of the resteraunts or bars with dockage.

I totally agree that Ouchita is a great lake. Put together something more lengthy than a weekend. It is just too distant IMO, to do a weekend trip for those of us from the metroplex. It is all day to get to ouchita both going and coming home. It doesn't answer the floating cabin desire, although when some see the pricing on those, they aren't near as interested. I hate we haven't put together a local gathering this year. I have been to busy to suggest a place but after being out of town for two years, maybe a more central location would attract the crowd again. I'm not trying to nix your desire to have a gathering there @Bruce , and I think we should at some point. But it will limit metroplex participation. Like always, I personally can't commit until I know I can get the time off, and that is just a few weeks before an event. But a weekend is always doable if I can make it a priority. I just can't get off or expect to, for a weekend adding two additional travel days. That is why I haven't yet committed to the Table Rock gathering, which I very much want to attend. When we went to Ouchita, we stayed at Mountain Harbor in a very nice cabin, had a guest slip literally 150 feet away, were able to keep Chester with us in the cabin, and very much enjoyed the lake. A bad storm knocked out a county and half anothers power for days, and Mountain Harbor provided huge coolers for our refrigerated items and all the ice we could use...and at checkout, they refunded a big percentage of our rent. But it is a big drive from the metroplex, much farther than Broken Bow. I would think there are those that can make it, and nothing prevents it from being an event, even this year. I just think we need a metroplex gathering close to the metroplex no matter what other events that are planned.

I love Ouachita, I would try my hardest to make it to a gathering there, it's probably a 10 hour drive for me, but it's home (I'll always call that area home no matter where I live).

@Bruce when you say Ouachita is calmer do you mean water wise or atmosphere?
I just want to go to Lkae Murray for the floating cabins and it looks nice, I searched for floating cabins in TX and all I saw was some house boats tied in a slip pretty much.

@wayloncycle, we have been to Texoma and Murray. Both seemed like very busy lakes to us. We have really enjoyed the opportunity to hang out with other JetBoaters but the lakes were no where as nice as Ouachita.

Texoma is a big lake, larger than Ouachita but with so many more people and boats. The lodging and ramps left a lot to be desired.

The floating cabins are nice. The price seems high but the demand is huge. I believe I waited six months to get the operators to tell us what date we could have for the group trip. There is a hotel like complex with a huge and full parking lot before you get to the cabins, then some very busy condo or cabin units then the cabins themselves are at the end of the road in an area where boat trailers are prohibited. The ramp at the marina which was several miles away was crazy busy.

@Wayloncle, Google Maps say you are 5.5 hours from Lake Murray or 8.25 from Lake Ouachita. Kansas City is 7 hours from Lake Murray or 6.5 from Lake Ouachita.
