I pulled both my pumps today with no issue getting them out but I have a few questions. First of all I am convinced that the impellers hit the wear ring housings so that has made the decision for me to upgrade my impeller housing to plastic inserts. I am also getting impellers repitched to what impros suggest for some more low end grunt.

Ok now for the questions. What is everyone using to reseal their pumps. I am missing sealant and I have tried to reseal them before and that is no longer there.

I was also reading a few threads where people replaced their pump cone lube with a mix of gear oil and an am soil grease or just a gear lube period. Just wanting to know a year later if you have noticed any issues?

Last question, I was spinning the impellers and they feel great! Should I replace the bearings since I will have it all apart or just stick it all back together? I can see both sides. If it ain't broke don't fix it, but since I have it down that far might as well do it? I have a press so haveing the tools for the job isn't an issue.

Anyways here are some pics of what I found.

When it comes to the bearings, I would consider how many hours you have and the grease looks like when you pulled the cones? You can compare how mine looked in this thread: https://jetboaters.net/threads/diy-steering-cable-replacement-pump-pulls-cone-lube-check.8059/

If there are no signs of wear or pitting from any corrosion they may have a lot of life left. I have been planning to clean and repack mine with new grease. I will read up on he oil bath some more and check back here for what you decide.

If you don't have at least 500 hours on your pumps do not rebuild them, I place some s t p in the cones with the grease.

Seriously, I would not chase down building anything about the pumps unless you have a real problem. Your impeller looks a little dinged up but again, unless you have real issues, I would not introduce more work and unforseen problems. Ask me how i know....

I now have plastic inserts and brand new pumps/everything. It is as great as it used to be before all of the work???

@jcyamaharider. Copies notes would be appreciated as I'm looking at the same job this spring. I think I'll be doing the OEM SS wear ring though. With regard to the bearings, I just check mine at the beginning of each season. I would let their condition for wear and water intrusion determine if replacement is necessary or not.

I get my yds this week so I will read the engine hours and go from there. Thanks for all the comments.

Varies 47 to 50 but I don't get to do it too often.

Bet thought I was going to say 10.2. Lol. :p

Thanks. My impellers look much better than yours but top out at 46 @ 10.2. The manual states that SX230s had different impellers. If the manual is correct I should get a bump from new impellers. I am debating pulling the pumps to check the part numbers.

Just pulled my cones to check for water, looks like some did get in.

That is most unpleasant!

Wait... Where is the 'understatement' like-type icon? I need one desperately, @Bruce . :)

Now you're scaring me. I'm receiving my new impellers from Impros this week. I'll be following this thread closely.

Make sure to buy an extra insert or two if you go with the plastic ones. My last boat (sea doo) had those and they do melt if you get debris such as a rope spinning around in there. It's instant cavitation time when that happens. So it would be nice to be able to drop a new one in right away.

@jcyamaharider Mine looked somewhat similar, and I haven't had any problems.
Here is how mine looked when I pulled them few months back (not the greatest pics, sorry). Maybe not as bad as what you show, but I clearly had this whitish emulsion indicating water intrusion. I replaced mine with marine grease when I switched to L13 cone, and haven't had any problems. I run my pump hard.
Next time when I pull them, I will use a mix of gear lube and marine grease, that is what most of the Greenhulk racers use for their cones in VXR/S and such.
I think as long as the shaft moves smoothly, you are fine, probably caught it at the right time.

I went with gear oil/grease mixture last year. I will definitely be interested to see the bearings when I pull the cones this year.

I have been running with plastic inserts and kind of like them. I don't see any difference in performance. But they do get beat up pretty fast, so you will need to replace them once in a while. @Bruce find is spectacular for the price. I got mine from Impros.

The first time they go into a new wear ring easy. Thereafter, you cut out the old with a chisel or something like it, and stick the new plastic in the freezer, then just use a piece of wood or the old ring and some mallet action.
