Pulled my pumps today.....

I have been running with plastic inserts and kind of like them. I don't see any difference in performance. But they do get beat up pretty fast, so you will need to replace them once in a while. @Bruce find is spectacular for the price. I got mine from Impros.

The first time they go into a new wear ring easy. Thereafter, you cut out the old with a chisel or something like it, and stick the new plastic in the freezer, then just use a piece of wood or the old ring and some mullet action.

I can't imagine beating them in with a fish. a mallet might work better. ;).

to the OP, I'd go through both, replace all seals and inspect and grease the bearings but fill with gear oil. This is what mine did because I didn't inspect them. Luckily it was the last outing of our week long lake vacation.

I have viewed your thread a couple of times completely thru @Big Shasta . I appreicate you documenting all of that.

What kind of sealant did everyone use to seal around the intake grate?

3m 5200. Seems to be the only thing that will stick for a while. Also used to seal the transom plate.
I hate it, too.

I see most of you commenting on this thread have the 230 hulls. I had a 230 that seized and destroyed the impeller several years ago because the cone cracked and let water in. I was looking at my 240's pump and the cones certainly look a big beefier than what my 230 had. What does everyone recommend on how often to actually pull the pump and pull the cone? Do you all do this annually? I have had my 240 going on year 3. I always look at the cones to make sure I don't see cracks like my 230 did but just curious as pulling the pump scares the SH** out of me.

Pulling the pumps should be really easy. I had one that was hung up on something and I had to get stupid to get it out. (See the video in the link above)

It's a job that I would recommend annually. Pulling them both for inspection and reinstalling them should be an easy 2 hour job. Well worth it for piece of mind.

Ran my YDS on both engines lat night after a very frustrating couple of hours trying to get yds to work, and I was shocked at my hours. I thought I ran my boat alot. I have only put about 100 hours on it in 3 years. So I have decide to just replace my impellers and that is it.

I must be misreading the pictures. It looks like each engine has about 286 hours them not 100 hours.

I bought the boat with 181 hours on it already

I converted my cones to oil bath about 3 years ago. With the OEM bearing setup I feel that the oil bath is a better lube system and will handle an water penetration a bit better. So far no issues and it is easy to change the oil. Cam.

I have been planning to try these $85 pump housings with replaceable $27 plastic wear rings http://www.precisionmarinetools.com/yamaha-waverunner-pwc-replacement-jet-pump-housing-p-1.html

He must have gone out of business. I do not see his housings on eBay either.
