JB.net v.s. OTHER JetBoat sites. . . . .

When this board was created, with the idea that it should be open and transparent. . . . I was WAY on-board. Not only did I absolutely LOVE the format and S/W more than OTHER boards, but the idea of transparency was significantly appealing. My greatest hope was that the creation of this site would help OTHER sites realize that there was a better way to manage a forum such as this.

I had a post "Moderated" here within the first few weeks of joining and there was an open, honest, genuine discussion as to whether the content was relevant or if it should stay. Not only was I advised that the post was moderated, not only was I given an opportunity to share my opinion, but I was encouraged to to so in order to help formulate a policy regarding said content moving forward.

FF to yesterday. . . . There was a post on anOTHER jet boat site that had a link to a different site regarding a group (offered here: http://www.pwcweekly.com/showthread...-DAYLIGHT-SAVINGS-TIME!-At-COBRA-JET-STEERING.)

I noticed the link from the OP was broken and redirecting to an invalid address. So I searched out the correct link and posted it in the comment indicating that the above link was broken.

Here in lys the issue . . . . .I went back today to view my updated posts and troll the board for anything new and I found that the entire post had been deleted. No notice, no discussion, no courtesy. . . . . just deletion.

I would think that a post made, to help others get quality products at great prices might be well received by the users of that forum. . . . But I guess that only happens on JB.net.
I'm the one that posted that link on the other site and its disappointing that it was removed. I have seen a lot of new people joining and thought it might be a great opportunity for someone in the market. I havent picked up my new boat yet but i will in 2 weeks. I have learned alot about the boat already without even having it in my possesion because of these forums. I will definitely not be posting anything on the other forum now because of this event. I thought the point of the forums were to help people out but not the case I'm finding out at the other forum. Thanks to everyone that post you have taught me a lot.

I still visit the other site, more out of curiosity than anything. Like the other day I researching a box anchor. But I do not and will not post. I refuse.
I have noticed the lack of activity there - I've noticed that we may have 30-40 users online, while they will have 11 or so. The other day someone posted a question as to why there was so little activity. Another member posted back saying that it was due to the time of year and it will pick up. I was so so tempted to post "No - its cause we are all on JetBoaters.net". But I resisted the urge.

I've also noticed a lot of newbies with so many questions not getting sufficient answers.
I bit on this one and actually did post that it was because there were two sites (not listing our site of course). Not long after my post the entire thread was moved to his private forum where only admins and mods can see.

Yeah, was 81 here yesterday. ..but I was in the office all day... :-(
WOW, Julian .......... So far "north" ...........It's a shame you're in such COLD (brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) weather. It was a brisk, sunny 86 here today. We were hoping for higher. <LOL !> I am goin' out to wet a worm !

I am thankful DevilDog started this thread. Not only do I totally agree with his assessment of the situations, but I also did not understand why "that web link" was "broken." Thanks for starting this. Best Wishes to all, Mikey Lulejian.

I'ld like to say 1 more thing if I might. I WAS going "back" there for awhile as some of y'all also indicated you also were doing. But what I saw was either a bunch of newbies who seemed like the first thing they needed was a good Boating Course FIRST, or people with cheaper, older boats who did not understand why their 15 year old boats had a problem. And never any clear, concise accurate help from other members.
But I never noticed any sense of Brotherhood, or helpfulness "over there." Coming here <
jetboaters.net> is like going outside and breathing CLEAN, GOOD QUALITY air. It just makes you feel BETTER ! Ok, I said my peace.Y'all play nicely now.

Raging Ass Hat ?????????? LOL. That's a new on on me . but I do like it. Does than compare to us Suthn'ers "DICK WEED" ??????

We got up to a balmy 51 degrees here today. . . . I hate (read: envy) you southerners.

That guy is a raging ass hat. Perfect example of successful in spite of yourself. Now on to the next chapter here[flag]
Well this guy isn't raging, but we actually even have an ass-hat here!!!

:asshat:

Welcome to the board! Glad to see another KC member!

I haven't jumped in on any of these threads until now (and I'm glad to see there haven't been many - I'd rather keep things positive) but I'm gonna call this my last chance to throw in my 2 cents on the topic.

First, I must admit I'm one of the folks who was (mostly) oblivious to what was going on. I kinda suspected something was up with Mel and a few others by the way the tone of their posts changed, but I put it in the "not really my problem" category. Who knows? Maybe someone's going through a rough spot in life. Let it ride.

When the old site went down for an extended period after the group-buy I kinda figured something was up. I'm the type that prefers to give folks the benefit of the doubt, but my "sixth sense" was tingling.

I came over hear and read the tales (Again, I'm glad we've kept these posts few and far between. I'd rather move forward rather than look back.) and then I saw what I think I knew deep down inside but wasn't admitting: We'd all been hoodwinked to one degree or another. The site and all the great info provided by US was the bait. The donations button and the store ("Support our benefactor for all he does for us!") were the hook. And we hooked ourselves by peer-pressuring each other. Our benefactor never had to lift a finger.

I had concerns when the store opened and donations were still being solicited. I held back in 2013 because of it. I'm glad now that I did.

It was only through someone's (short lived) post of a link to this site that came over here. Thankfully.

At first I was a bit suspect (it was -after all - a case of "he said she said") but in no time at all I could see how different things were over here. It felt like it did when I first found the site back in 2009 - with the added bonus of a really great software package.

Still, I waited over there.

Waited for a reply to a thread that seemed to be being policed by some sort of Mafia. Anyone who spoke up was batted down. Anyone who spoke in glowing terms was patted on the head.

Waited to hear the "other side" of the story. When that answer finally came it was so hollow that it echoed.

And now - with the post that started this thread - I see that nothing has changed. But that should be no surprise anyway.

I'll admit that for the last few weeks I've been "peeping through the blinds" over there. It was more out of curiosity than anything. I'm not interested in "drama." I find it boorish. But who doesn't drive past their old house once in a while? At the moment it doesn't look too good over there. Maybe the community will re-form itself with new folks, but if the pattern continues I suspect it won't take too long for them to make their way over here.

In the end I find the events that started this whole thing disappointing, but I am VERY happy with how it ended up. We have a great site with great people. In a few short weeks we've got all the logos, flags, stickers, and beer cozies we could ever want - and we didn't have to ask anyone's permission to do it. The vast majority of the "old-time" posters are here and more continue to trickle over. Our favorite vendors can now join us without feeling like someone is breathing down their necks watching their every move.

I have "logged off" that other site on all of my computers. I'm debating whether I should yank my photos. I didn't upload them to that site. I left them hosted on picasa. All I've got to do is change a couple of folder names and my multi-photo threads will be nothing but a few words and some funny little "missing photo link" boxes. I don't want to do the "sour grapes" thing so I might just leave them and move on. Maybe one of the new folks will find my depth finder install helpful. It's tempting though.

Well, sorry to ramble. I've been waiting almost a month to spew a bit on the topic and thought I'd missed my chance.

Now it's time to move on!

Let's get out there on the ice! .... I mean water!

Yup I was one of the ones asking for the explanation on that thread. Very disappointing.
